Toni Tähti – Professional Cycling Coach & Performance Specialist
Performance never grows in a straight line. My own story is a good example of that.
For a long time my twenty minute power sat around 300 watts. I trained hard, raced hard, tried to “want it more”. Nothing moved. That frustration sent me in a different direction. Instead of adding more force to the system I began asking why the system was not responding.
That question took me into performance science. I spent thousands of hours studying training theory, exercise physiology and nutrition. I read research, talked with experts, tested protocols on myself and on the athletes I coached. I wanted to understand what really changes inside a cell when an athlete gets stronger, faster, more resistant to fatigue.
Over time a clear picture formed. True progress comes from teaching the body specific things, in a specific order, often more calmly than ego would like. Mitochondrial density, capillarisation, enzyme activity, lactate transport, neuromuscular coordination, all of these adapt when the stimulus is right and repeated often enough. That understanding changed how I trained. It also changed how I coach.
On the bike I have put these ideas to the test in real conditions. Becoming XCM Finnish Elite Champion was part of that process, proven across long marathon races in the Alps and Dolomites, high altitude efforts, and steep climbs that punish every weakness in training, physiology or technique. Those races are honest. They immediately reveal if the structure behind the training is solid or cosmetic.
The results of this process are not just in my own numbers, like building a 440 watt twenty minute power, but in the development of the riders I work with. Age groupers reaching new levels after years of plateau. Ambitious riders discovering that their aerobic capacity can be far higher than they thought. Cyclists starting to feel in control of their performance instead of guessing.
As a coach I am calm, direct and analytical. I do not believe in magic blocks, secret intervals or motivational slogans. I believe in long projects, precise planning and the discipline to follow a structure that fits your life and physiology. I listen carefully, ask questions and explain why we are doing what we are doing. You will always know the logic behind your training.
I work best with athletes who are curious. People who want to understand their own bodies. People who are willing to send data, share honest feedback and treat their training time as something valuable. If we work together, my goal is simple. Build you into a rider whose physiology supports the way you want to ride and race.
If you feel that your current training no longer matches your potential, we can change that.
